Despite later updates separating the Co-op functionality from amiibo and releasing Co-op for free on most other versions of the game, the unlockable Co-op challenges were never ported to the other consoles. This is because in the original releases of the game, the ability to play Co-op was tied to the use of the Shovel Knight amiibo. The Shovel Knight amiibo and the Golden Shovel Knight amiibo serve the same functionality and unlock 5 challenges centered around the abilities of Custom Knight, but also unlock 5 challenges themed around Co-op Mode which are exclusive to the Wii U and Switch versions of the game. The Plague Knight amiibo unlocks 5 additional challenges for Plague Knight, the Specter Knight amiibo unlocks 5 additional challenges for Specter Knight and the King Knight amiibo unlocks 5 additional challenges for King Knight.
